Solved: Touchpad Not Working Dell Vostro 3550 on Ubuntu 20.04

Issue: Touchpad would stop working after touching it for about 10 seconds.

The fix: install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
  1. Open your terminal.  (usual keyboard shortcut: CTRL+ALT+T), or open your app selection prompt and type 'terminal'
  2. in terminal window, type:

read the prompts and answer accordingly.  After the above is installed, touchpad should start working properly.

Another possible fix:  wipe the touchpad really well with a clean piece of cloth and then touch it lightly with your finger.
